Telehealth & Policies

How telehealth works here.

This page outlines how virtual therapy is delivered in my California practice, the consent and privacy framework, and what we do to keep you safe between sessions.

A warm home setup for a video therapy session — laptop, ceramic mug of tea, headphones, and an open notebook on an oak desk.

Telehealth services are available

All sessions are conducted by secure, HIPAA-compliant video. You'll receive a unique session link before each appointment. A private, quiet space and a stable internet connection are recommended.

Informed consent is required

Before we begin, you'll review and sign a written telehealth informed consent form. This document explains how telehealth works, your rights, the limits of confidentiality, and what to expect from our sessions.

Risks and limitations

Telehealth is effective for many people, but it isn't right for everyone or every situation. Possible limitations include technology disruptions, reduced ability to assess non-verbal cues, and a clinical fit that may call for a higher level of care than telehealth can offer. We'll discuss this together at intake.

Privacy & confidentiality

Sessions are conducted on a HIPAA-compliant platform. While every reasonable precaution is taken, no electronic communication is 100% secure. You're responsible for choosing a private location for our sessions, and for protecting your own devices and accounts.

Emergency procedures are different

Telehealth is not appropriate for psychiatric emergencies. If you are in crisis, please call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. We will create a written safety plan together that includes your local emergency resources.

Location & emergency contact

At the start of each session, I may ask you to confirm your physical location and an emergency contact. This is a safety standard for telehealth and helps me direct emergency services to you if needed. You must be physically located in California at the time of session.

Other practice policies

The fine print, plainly stated.

Cancellation & no-show
Please give at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Sessions cancelled with less notice, or no-shows, are charged at the full session rate.
Communication between sessions
Email and text are appropriate for scheduling and brief logistics only. Please don't share clinically sensitive details by email or text — those conversations belong in session.
Records
I keep clinical records as required by California law. You have the right to request a copy of your records or have them released to another provider you choose.
Mandated reporting
As a California-licensed clinician, I am a mandated reporter for suspected abuse or neglect of children, dependent adults, and elders, and for imminent risk of harm to self or others. We'll discuss the limits of confidentiality at intake.
